Under the general supervision of the Section Chair, Residency Program Director, attending dentists and Clinic Supervisor, perform dental assisting and administrative functions for the Endodontics predoctoral and postdoctoral clinics. Responsibilities include chairside assisting faculty, residents, and dental students. When not assisting, responsibilities include: sterilization duties including washing dental instruments and equipment; scheduling appointments; responding to telephone inquiries; resolving patient complaints and conflicts; ensure proper billing of endodontic procedures; process all patient billing, including private insurance and Medicare; and follow up on outstanding charges and preparing reports of same.

Required/Preferred

Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment and procedures related to dentistry so as to respond to student, patient and faculty requests.

Required

Working knowledge of principles of asepsis, sterilization procedures and infection control.

Required

Working knowledge of four-handed dentistry.

Required

Ability to work with infectious disease patients.

Required

Working knowledge of University policies and procedures regarding patient care.

Preferred

Ability to organize and maintain an inventory of dental instruments equipment and supplies in the dental operatory.

Required

Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.

Required

Physical ability to, push/pull carts, handle surgical equipment carefully and safely, and stand for long periods of time.

Required

Ability to control issuing supplies and equipment so as to minimize loss and maximize utilization.

Required

Knowledge and ability to take an inventory count and prepare an inventory report.

Required

Bilingual (Spanish/English) writing and verbal skills to translate and communicate in writing with patients/students/doctors.

Required

Possession of current California State certification as Dental Assistant, Radiology licensure and CPR certificate.

Required

Experience with working in a dental or medical office.

Required

Demonstrated organizational skill to enforce clinic policies by following established policies and procedures.

Patient relations skills to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, including difficult patients.

Required

Skill in performing repetitive work according to set procedures, sequence, and pace.

Commitment to maintain open lines of communication with Supervisor and Chair to ensure that all are kept apprised of clinic issues and/or concerns.

Demonstrated skill in using electronic and legacy scheduling and patient record management systems and processes.

Experience with a clinic information management system.

Demonstrated knowledge of software program for dental billing.

Analytical skills and focus to identify patient payments that may have been applied to the incorrect clinic and/or account.

Demonstrated computer skills to successfully utilize software (Word and Excel) to generate correspondence and create reports/spreadsheets.

Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with diverse faculty, staff, students/residents and patients.
