JOB GOALS: To assist in the daily bus transportation of students in a safe and efficient manner by performing assigned office related tasks.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
include the following. Other duties as assigned.

  • Enter student data as needed.
  • Communicate all transportation changes to buildings and drivers.
  • Organize and facilitate Professional Development meetings.
  • View bus tapes and organize discipline reports, communicating with principals and school personnel as needed.
  • First back up for transportation phone calls. Deal with complaints and issues related to transportation in a pleasant, professional, and timely manner, consistent with Middlebury Community Schools policies.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with drivers, monitors, students, parents, and other school personnel to facilitate a smooth functioning transportation program.
  • Collaborate on the evaluation and use of current transportation systems, as well as the implementation of new programs and software to keep the department technology current and up to date. Programs include Zonar, Traversa, and GPS/PowerSchool.
  • Act as Sub Monitor and/or drive bus routes as needed.
  • Call for sub drivers as needed.
  • Assist the Director in the recruitment, hiring, and coordination of training of bus drivers, substitute bus drivers, and bus monitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Two years of college preferred. Experience in transportation related field and computerized routing software and GPS systems helpful.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Possession of a valid Indiana state CDL Class B driver’s license with school bus driving endorsements (S, P) is preferred, and may be required to obtain within the first year of employment.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Able to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical material, financial reports, and legal documents. Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to inquiries or complaints from parents, board members, regulatory agencies, or community members. Able to effectively present information to drivers, school employees, and parents.


MATHEMATICAL SKILL:

Able to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions,

percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY:

Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance. Employee experiences frequent vibration while driving a school bus and is required to climb in and out of bus frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 10-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office setting but will also work outdoors with weather conditions being occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and occasionally may work near moving mechanical parts in fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve months per year, 40 hours/week. Salary and benefits as per classified policy.


EVALUATION:

A yearly evaluation will be done on the employee's performance.
