Job Description:

Digital Business Automation Services (DBAS) is looking for a Strategy Consultant to help managing the strategic planning and ongoing reporting on progress.

DBAS is part of Core IT and reports into the Chief Technology Office. They own and manage a group of automation platforms supporting business areas across Sun Life. These automation technologies include Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Low Code Application Platforms (LCAP), Process Mining, Document and Form Generation, Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) and Content Management. To successfully align our efforts with business aspirations, we need to adopt a strategic approach to our planning and delivery.

The Strategy Consultant will report directly to the Assistant Vice President of the department and will help facilitating the annual strategic planning cycle. The strategic plan is a mechanism to govern the team’s overall performance, and it ensures alignment to the parent organization’s direction, priorities, and objectives. It also helps imbedding high performance culture and driving to achieving business outcomes.

This role is best suited for aspiring strategy consultants who would like to act as a single contributor supporting a team of 100+ IT professionals. This could be a great fit for consultants who bring matching transferable skills from other adjacent disciplines. The successful candidate will be multi-skilled and adaptable with excellent communication skills, proven programmatic planning and strategy development skills. Please note this is an 18-month contract opportunity.

What will you do?

Strategic planning cycle

Coordinate strategic planning cycle for the DBAS team, which will involve:

  • Work with the team leaders to identify the top priorities for the team

  • Understand business goals and objectives and determine how DBAS’ objectives should align

  • Collect technology renewal, growth and innovation initiatives and map these initiatives out to the appropriate objectives

  • Assemble a three-year roadmap in collaboration with the architects and the platform owners

  • Facilitate the process to develop the OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) for the DBAS team, in collaboration with the leaders of the area and other partners within the cross functional teams

  • Document the team’s annual objectives and disseminate this information to the team members

Program updates and communication

The candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be experienced with:

  • Develop executive ready reports, outcome based, and focused on achievements to communicate progress towards OKRs

  • Contribute to the CIO and CTO regular reports with input from the DBAS team

  • Communicate internally and externally using various forms of material

  • Perform research on industry and competitive trends to support development of strategic roadmaps

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of running the business of IT departments and enterprise platforms

  • Develop presentation material to aid in conducting regular touchpoints with internal and external stakeholders

  • Participate in development rich media (animation videos, etc.) to explain and showcase some hyper-automation use cases and solutions

What do you need to succeed?

  • 2+ years IT experience preferably with a degree in management information systems, business administration or related technology or business degree/diploma

  • 2+ years relevant work experience with a strategy consulting firm, corporate strategy department, planning and allocation department, or similar background on a cross functional IT organization

  • Ability to collect input and insights through conversations and interviews and turning these into executive-ready material

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with management and other stakeholders while also connecting with peers and influencing without authority

  • Ample amount of creativity and ability to think outside of the box

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle several tasks efficiently

  • Self-starter, comfortable working independently and within teams

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
