UNICEF offers the opportunity for interns, talented university students, to gain valuable professional experience while being exposed to UNICEF's work. At the same time, UNICEF benefits from working with interns as they are a significant asset, providing updated academic knowledge, technical know-how and other valuable skills to the organization.
- Supporting the implementation of the Programme on Combatting Child Labour and Promoting Children’s Rights and Business Principles: Intern will support the team on programme implementation. Where necessary, the intern will assist organizing events and communicating with the participants as well as follow-up of the correspondence.
- Joining internal programme conversations (webinars, thematic working groups) and relevant external meetings, conferences and events within Türkiye: The intern will take part in programmatic conversations and benefit external meetings.
- Compilation of child labour legislation: The intern will compile national legislation and international conventions/treaties on child labour and prepare an excel sheet for easy access. The goal is to map strong legislative examples which played a key role in eliminating child labour in different settings and countries, and to use this to inform not only legislation-development but also to address the gaps between legislation and implementation.
- Compilation of studies on child labour, corporate social responsibility and due diligence actsIntern will review the assessments, research and analyses (qualitative or quantitative) done by academics, CSOs and INGOs on CRBP, due diligence acts and child labour in 2022 and 2023 in Türkiye and European Union. S/he will prepare a table with brief information about studies’ major focus, findings, and recommendations.
- Preparing presentation on CRBP and child labour: The intern will identify a specific topic regarding CRBP and child labour issue in Türkiye which may include the recognition of children’s rights at the private sector and prevalence of child labour in a particular sector, intervention models, summary of a field study on child labour etc. and make a presentation at the end of the internship.
- Proofreading & Translation: Proofread and translation of the documents when needed.
- Other Tasks: Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor.

Duration: 26 weeks
Stipend: In accordance to UNICEF's guidelines, interns will be paid a nominal stipend per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. programme or have graduated within the past two years.
- Degree in social sciences, preferably political science, economics, labour economics, international relations, sociology, public administration, social work.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Very fluent in English, with strong writing skills.
- Fluency in Turkish is an asset.
- Having excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
- Having experience in and / or knowledge on social protection, labour market studies, child labour, child rights, development programming
- Excellent command on Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Additional consideration will be given for any internship experience in related fields.
- Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office
- Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to
